Pro-Invest, Pesticide Initiative Program and the Caricom sponsored a conference in Port of Spain, Trinidad which we attended. The EU’s new rules on maximum pesticide residue levels, which pesticides will no longer be allowed and how that will affect from whom the EU buys its produce were the main topics discussed.

Barbados Food Safety Seminar

Medina presented the second Food Safety Seminar in Barbados for food producers. With speakers from FAO (Food & Agriculture Organization), PAHO (Pan American Health Organization), The Governments of Barbados and Canada, Barbados Manufacturers’ Association, Bank Breweries, Tyson Foods, Loblaws, Chickmont Foods and Air Canada, the seminar covered many aspects necessary for a Food Safety/ Quality Assurance Program. Topics included Why Food Producers need a Food Safety Assurance Program, Implementing and Certifying a Food Safety Assurance Program, What Large Scale Food Buyers Require, and the Import and Export Markets.

Bajan Food Promotion

The Queen Elizabeth Hotel (Montreal) and The Royal York Hotel (Toronto) welcomed Executive Chef Jean-Claude Plihon from the Fairmont Hotels in Barbados (Royal Pavilion & Glitter Bay) who created special Bajan-inspired dishes for the events sponsored by the Fairmont Hotels, Air Canada and Medina Quality Assurance Services and the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association. Using Bajan products, guests dined on Flying Fish, Crab and Salt Fish Cakes with Mango-Avocado Salsa, Roasted Red Snapper with Curried West Indian Lentils, Braised Greens and Chutney, and Sweet Sugar Cane Kebob of Bananas and Mangoes.
The events were well attended in both Montreal & Toronto.
